Identity is a tough subject for those who were victims of severe abuse and manipulation at an early age, or any age for that matter. There’s so many critical competing voices at times that it can be hard to even hear yourself think! Normally it’s always the same voices of your past accusers, which can be especially painful if they were friends and family. The good news is you can free yourself from all of the baggage of the past condemnation you had received. You start by first forgiving ALL of your past accusers and abusers, sounds crazy right?
Well follow me…This forgiveness is for you, not them, it’ll help to enable you to move on by not carrying the emotional baggage attached to past hurts. Realizing that hurting people hurt people can shift your perspective from self-focused hurt and rejection, to the necessary selfless empathy needed to help intercede and sincerely pray for them. After all they’re the ones that definitely need it! Believe it or not, personal self-hatred breeds many accusers. They’re abusive actions towards you are usually not as much about you than it is about their distaste for themselves. Their manifested abusive outward actions keep them in a constant cycle of disfunction, with their actions only serving to validate they’re self hatred. When you take yourself out of the equation, you’ll realize that it’s not about you! Your perspective will shift from “victim” to “healer”, seeing only someone hurting and in need of help as opposed to the perceived abuser or accuser you once saw. No one has any real idea of what all of us have been through or experienced, so keep that in mind and tread lightly, while always trying to be the light! Healing takes time, but it can always be preceded by forgiveness and love. Only through relationship and God’s word can we truly heal and see the truth of who we really are! Identity is found in Christ alone. Just focus on God’s voice and the truth of his word Phil 4:8, and you’ll start to drown out the old voices of your accusers with truth! It’s all about a perspective shift, transformation from “victim” to “healer” comes through the love and truth which is found in Jesus Christ…💯🙏
